Are You ready for Digital TV?There was help on the square on Saturday for the TV digital switch over. For the Granada region this will happen next November when first BBC will go off the air followed by other stations. You can get digital TV now on Freeview, Freesat or Sky and if you can get any of these now you will have no problem in the next year. It will help in this area as we have bad Channel 5 reception around Crewe. This is due to it being given a frequency out side the range of aerials for this area as it was introduced a lot latter than the other services and there was no room left for it within our range.
New Car BootA new weekly car boot starting this Sunday 16th November on the lorry park behind Scope House on Weston Lane. Its been a bit of a campaign to get it going since the Vagrants stopped in October, which included emailing all 56 borough councillors & Edward Timpson, asking them to put the word out to whoever might have a suitable site. For more details if you need them Thanks Rob Hutchings
Wulver to waste more money on Derby Docks
The Derby Docks estate, which has suffered from persistent problems with fly tipping and littering, is to benefit from new secure recycling and rubbish collection points, new fencing and pathways, tree planting and public seating areas. The work will transform the area. The area will get £130,000 to do all this with.
Next year I am undergoing one of the hardest challenges I have ever faced, I am dog sledding for 250km in average temperatures of –20. I am doing this to raise the awareness and help fundraise for a local charity based in the Crewe called Castaways. I have personally chosen this charity as I have witnessed the vast amount of work they do in the most deprived areas of our community. Castaways is run by volunteers, therefore if you decide to contribute you know your money is not going to pay huge wage bills – it all goes where it is needed. The charity itself has faced some setbacks, you may recall reading in the paper last year that their shop on West Street was flooded. I hope that my fundraising will pay for some of the repair work left and with the rest of the money they intend to purchase a defibrillator (and have a member of staff trained to use it), making the area safer for us all. There has been occasions in Crewe where ambulance have not reached people in time when they have had a heart attack, every second counts and having a defibrillator in a local shop with town centre radio could really be a life saver. The system already works in many towns around the country and reports certainly suggest an improvement in survival rates. How you can help… 1.) I am having a charity auction on November 25th and I am currently looking for any suitable items to be placed in the raffle. I know it is unlikely, but if anyone has unopened chocolate, wine or toiletries taking up space in their house I would really welcome them (I am happy to come and collect items). 2.) Sponsor me! You can either send a cheque to the above address or sponsor me safely and securely online at: www.justgiving.com/castawaysdogsled. 3.) I will be selling tickets to the fundraising auction shortly and if you would like to attend please contact me on 07930504058 to purchase a ticket, they will be priced at £5 each. The auction is to be held at The Vagrants, Willaston, Nantwich. 4.) Forward thiswebpagel to anyone you know who may be able to assist. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please help me to make a difference in the community and support Castaways in the fantastic work they do. Kind regards, Jody Mullock

Crewe & Nantwich Swimming SuccessThe final presentation of swimming awards as Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council took place in the Council Chamber at Crewe’s Municipal Buildings on Wednesday 22nd October. The ceremony celebrated the achievements of 45 swimmers from the Council’s Learn to Swim Scheme which is operated in conjunction with the Amateur Swimming Association’s National Plan for the Teaching of Swimming The Mayor of Crewe & Nantwich, Cllr. Brian Silvester, who presented the swimmers with their awards on the night, along with Mayoress Ms Sheila Davies, said, “I was delighted to make this second presentation of the year to swimmers from our very successful Learn to Swim Scheme. We have seen a good number of sporting achievements from this area over the past few months and with continued dedication to sport we can hope to see some of these swimmers competing at a much higher level in the future. The theme of the Mayoral year is Lifelong Learning. There cannot be anything more worthwhile and rewarding than learning to swim.” Cllr. Bill McGinnis, Leisure Portfolio Holder, added, “Crewe & Nantwich has a leisure service provision that local people can be very proud of with so many recent successes including the Quest awards and the achievements of these young swimmers today. Now that these swimmers have completed the scheme, I would urge the children and parents to continue with their swimming development by supporting our local aquatics clubs operating at both Crewe and Nantwich swimming pools.”
A terrible state of affairs. The Hope House (Children's Hospice) Shop in Market St Click on the picture for a full view I went to the shop to see what had happened and saw how the yobs had broken in over a wall covered in razor wire and smashed doors to get into the out building. They came down an alley next to Carters the jewellers and used dustbins to gain entry. Strangely the Police haven't bothered to tell Carters about the break in at the rear of their shop. The stock that is left will have to be thrown away as there is no way of knowing what the yobs have done to it. A computer is missing and one has to ask how can anyone walk about Crewe a night with a computer in the town centre and not be seen somewhere on CCTV? The break in have happened on more than one occasion and help is needed to secure the premises and carry out repairs I am writing this on
behalf of Diane Banton. Please either drop it into the shop, or contact Celia or Di Banton on 01270 251493 Website here Postal Works fighting for their jobsPostal works were out in the town Sat 20th Sept collecting signatures for the petition to save out sorting office which the Post Office wan to move to Warrington. The sorting Office has been in Crewe for years and was once the 3third largest employer in the area. I worked there over 25 years ago when it was in its hayday. We used to sort all the mail for Ireland and Crewe was the main place were the Travelling Post Office met every night to change over the mail. A train left London with all the mail and one Left Scotland with all the mail. It was sorted on the train and at Crewe any off the train going to Scotland which had to back to London got swapped over and visa versa. It was one mad dash to remove hundreds of bags of mail and take them across the platform to the other train. Now sadly all that has gone and if the PO have its way all the sorting will go to Warrington or Liverpool with lots of job losses. If we loose the sorting then Crewe is in decline

Joel Crewe Carnival weekend 23 AugustThe procession took place today and the only thing worth watching was the jumping bikes. This year it sank to an all time low lasting on 11 mins. It gives the impression of a town in decline it used to be a major event with lorries and lots of troupes , Sea cadets, bands and lots more. It was good as you always got a free gift from Asda or the Tea factory and it lasted along time. The bright idea of going Green so no lorries etc just isn't working and needs to be abandoned. As this is the last carnival from the present council I thought they may have gone out on a high. They made it even worse at the park everyone follows the procession onto the park and stays all night. Not this time people had to leave at 5 oclock to be let back in at 7:30 so all those who had come a long way just went home. Once again the park was always good with the wrestling, fair and fireworks but this time there is nothing worth having. Bring back the old procession and show what the town used to be Queens Park get new railings The Queens Park is getting a make over of silver railing all around starting down the St George playing fields. It looks a lot better lets hope they get the rest of the park sorted soon Derby Docks A No go Area 14 August At long last the drunks have no were to hide. The trees on the Docks have been cut back which everyone agrees is a crying shame as it means the yobs have won. But people feel safer as no longer can they hide in the bushes and have drunken parties as they are now clearly visible to the Police and everyone else. The main concern for the old people was you could hear people in the bushes but couldn't see them so you never knew if you were going to be attacked by someone jumping out at you. It was a daft idea to give so much cover next to a children's play area so any pervert could site in the bushes and look at the children undetected. As it is now there is still some trees but no one can hide as everything is now visible. The council wont do the whole area until winter so the fear is in the mean time all the drunks will simply move further down into the remaining bushes June 08 Click on the picture for a full image The West End and other areas have now got a no drinking area which is a new bylaw. The Police can confiscate booze from anyone drinking in the area. What this has meant for the Derby Docks is trouble as its now a hot spot for teenage drinkers why? Take a look at the picture above and you see the area has large bushes all over the Docks. Residents got a 200 name petition up to get them removed when they were first put in as no one wanted them. As you can see they are feet from the main path and this frightens people at night as anyone can jump out at you and rob you. The problem is now the teenagers have spotted the flaw in the drinking ban as if they come onto the Dock and go into the bushes no one can see them and they can drink in peace. If the Police drive past they can see nothing even from the path you cant see them the only way to catch them is to go into the bushes. Residents see loads of kids arrive and go into the bushes with booze often to hide it for a party later on. Many week ends we can get 50+ kids hanging around the Docks drinking and its made the area a no go area for old people at the weekend. The other week we counted over 100 teenagers on the Docks. We believe the bushes look wonderful if they were in a good area but were they are we believe. The are a risk as they are to close to the path. To high and dense so no one can see who is in side. Attracting drunken yobs. Hard to Police and a good place for drug addicts and a place to hide stolen goods. We are asking are local councillor to take action and get them thinned or cut back so kids cant hide in them and so the Police can see those drinking “The First Renewable Energy Exhibition in Cheshire” Election The election is over thank goodness and that will save a million trees. The on thing about this election has been the amount of leaflets popping through the letter box every half hour not to mention the phone calls in the early morning from Labour try to get you to vote for them. The main focus of the
campaign has been labours Tamsin Dunwoody calling the conservative
candidate a toff. This would be Moyra Tamsin Dunwoody-Kneafsey,
privately-educated grand-daughter of a Baroness who lives on a 6-acre

Edward Timpson, by 7,860 votes Wisaston Road Closer Wisaston Rd is closed while the railway bridge is rebuilt. On Sunday 23/03/08 Dunwoody way was blocked so the bridge could be removed and a new one put in its place. Traffic jams were all around West St as people had to divert from the Dunwoody way. Thursday 7th Feb. At about 2:15 in the afternoon we heard 2 shots ring out from Oxford St. It seems a gunman wearing a crash hat open fire on a car containing 2 men. The car speed of onto West St and its not clear if they were hurt. We believe it was a revenge attack involving criminals. The area is 50 yards from the children play area and residents put it down to the high degree of drugs in the area. They wonder when the Police are going to once again raid the area and remove drugs from our streets
On Sunday morning 9th
Dec residents in Underwood Lane were woken at 2:30 am by a large
explosion and the sounds of breaking glass. The Lion and Swan pub which
has recently closed down was ablaze. The Police and Fire were soon on
the scene and worked most of the night to contain the fire and stop it
spreading. Underwood Lane and West St were blocked off to traffic for
several hours. Woman terrified by stalking community wardens.
RETURNING QUEENS PARK TO ITS FORMER GLORY Cllr. Bill McGinnis has slammed the irresponsible scaremongering of certain Labour Councillors over the refurbishment of Queens Park. He said: "It has become increasingly clear over the last few weeks that there has been a campaign based on misinformation which has caused some residents to fear for the future of Queen’s Park. Let me say, unequivocally, that this administration intends to carry out the major refurbishment of the park to the highest possible standard, with the aim of putting Crewe on the map as a visitor attraction within Cheshire. A year ago, we published details of our plans for the future and these were on display at various sites within the borough, including full colour versions at the park itself. These plans remain at the heart of the scheme and, as visitors will be aware, work commenced some months ago when the first stage got underway. The most difficult stage is the major earth-moving work which is entailed in dredging the lake and carrying out the associated improvements in that area. This stage will begin in August and we hope that members of the public will be patient and understanding as some parts of the park are necessarily closed for reasons of safety."
Council Leader, Cllr. Brian Silvester said: "In the first year of our administration, in 2006/7 , decisions were taken, plans prepared and work commenced. The programme of works will shortly be in full swing. It is a pity that, although money for the project was allocated as far back as 2001, little or nothing had been done prior to 2006 by the then Labour Administration." Cllr Bill McGinnis continued: “When this scheme of works is completed, the Borough will once again have a public park which will be the envy of local authorities far and wide. I am only sorry that some people should choose this time to raise concerns and doubts about the project when they should be giving it their support. I recognise that some residents have genuine anxieties and I will be happy to meet anyone with issues to raise or questions to ask. I will be available next Monday morning at the Council Access Shop, Earle Street in Crewe, from 10am until 1130 and at the Nantwich Town Council Office, Brookfield, off Shrewbridge Road, from 12noon until 1pm.”
